Netflix, a US-based media service provider, and production company entered the Indian OTT market in January 2016. At that time the streaming service did not provide any support in the local languages but now that is changing. The company recently announced that Netflix subscribers will now be able to use their service in Hindi. The third most spoken language in the world after English and Mandarin Chinese.

With this addition, Netflix is now available in a total of 27 languages around the world. Netflix says it has added language support to various pages such as sign-up pages, title names, synopsis, search results, and payments. There are even posters for various popular movies and web series in Hindi.

“It’s important to us to provide a great Netflix experience like creating great content. We believe Netflix's new user interface is more accessible and those who like Hindi will love it” said Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content at Netflix India.

You can switch to Hindi UI from the ‘Language’ option in the ‘Manage Profiles’ section on PC or TV. you can set up to 5 profiles, Netflix lets you set different languages for each profile. You can switch your profile language to Hindi even outside India.

The method of changing the language of the Netflix app on a mobile phone is a bit different. You will notice that the option to change the language is not in the Manage Profiles section. Instead, you have to change it from the account settings of the application.

To change the language of the Netflix mobile app, open the application and click on More from the bottom navigation bar. Now, tap on Account, scroll down to ‘Profile & Parental Controls’, tap on Language choose ‘Hindi’, and save.

While this is a very good step, we hope Netflix expands its language support to more regional languages in India.
